Gartner Research, 2008
Gartner rated CommVault as "Positive" in their 2008 Enterprise Backup/Recovery Software MarketScope. According to Gartner, vendors who receive a "Positive" rating demonstrate strength in specific areas, but execution in one or more areas may still be developing or inconsistent with other areas of performance. They recommend existing customers to continue planned investments, and potential customers should consider the vendor a viable choice for strategic or tactical investments, while planning for known limitations. In the 2008 Enterprise Backup/Recovery Software MarketScope, this was the highest level awarded to any vendor.

Gartner positioned CommVault in their 2008 Magic Quadrant for E-Mail Active Archiving. According to the report, "CommVault saw a major repositioning during last year with the July 2007 release of its Simpana platform and upgraded e-mail archiving solution. CommVault also supports the archiving of SharePoint and files, and dramatically improved its search, single instance store, and ease of use with the new version."
