Remote Operations Management Service (ROMS) Overview
The October 2007 issue of Storage Magazine indicated that "the primary factor driving respondents' management software purchases is "to manage more storage with the same staff," with more than 50% of those surveyed citing it as a key factor." The second most critical requirement is to "simplify the management of different storage environments."
CommVault has a long and strong history for helping customers to meet these objectives the Simpana® Suite, like QiNetix before it, enables customers to drive costs out, and efficiencies in, to managing, accessing and protecting data. CommVault drives business value for its customers specifically based on the capacity to more efficiently manage, access, and protect data via the Common Technology Engine. CommVault® ROMS monitoring extends the inherent value proposition associated with the CommVault® Simpana® Suite via enhanced customer site monitoring and integration with CommVault support.

The ROMS framework combines software, systems and personnel to provide managed monitoring for the CommVault-powered enterprise. Similar to the Call Home capabilities available in some storage hardware, ROMS support provides monitoring of key data management, access and protection systems for alerts that indicate Data MAP failures within the CommCell® deployment. If these alerts occur, ROMS monitoring transmits all the relevant information associated with the failure via encrypted web service to the CommVault® ROMS Operations Center. Here, alerts are analyzed and responded to, based on SLAs that have been established by the customer for each monitored server. ROMS support captures alerts as they happen, helping expedite resolution of issues affecting your critical systems before they become morning headaches.
