How It’s Done

The Simpana 9 External Data Connector (EDC) minimizes the time needed to migrate from legacy solutions, and seamlessly gain the efficiencies of modern data management by automatically collecting details on IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) and Symantec NetBackup (NBU) environments. Information collected includes client information, policy details, job information, policy schedules and tape inventories with monitoring and reporting capabilities for legacy jobs.

IT staff can transition clients to Simpana software through a simple “point and click” operation. This silently deploys CommVault Simpana agents to the targeted client systems, where the agents inherit the defined policies and metrics previously collected from the legacy systems. With the flick of a switch, legacy clients convert into live CommVault-managed clients leveraging pre-existing policies.

It’s never been easier for Symantec NetBackup and IBM TSM customers to transition to CommVault® Simpana® software. The CommVault Simpana platform enables complete migration process reporting with client success and failure tracking for both the legacy and CommVault solutions.
