CommVault Solutions — Microsoft Windows

Overview

CommVault® Singular Information Management® solution for Microsoft Windows provides comprehensive protection for Windows file system environments, including those running Microsoft Cluster Service. Managing file system data is a requirement for ensuring Exchange, SharePoint, and SQL Server data is well managed and easily recoverable. CommVault software also provides integrated management of specialized Windows platform components, including Active Directory Domain Controllers and built-in System State disaster recovery.

CommVault software provides particularly strong advantages for:

  • Enabling faster and easier adoption of new versions of Microsoft Windows and applications
  • Expanding Windows data management environments as deployments and requirements grow
  • Managing data on attached networked storage devices, including BlucArc, NetApp and EMC Celerra NAS devices

CommVault works closely with the team at Microsoft, to provide best-in-class data management solutions which are certified with Microsoft's latest technology. This alliance helps to ensure a great experience for our mutual customers.

Enabling Faster and Easier Adoption of New Microsoft Product Versions

CommVault software capabilities include migration of file system and Exchange data from older to newer product versions. This makes it possible for you to plan systems upgrades, and know that your data is recoverable, without having to maintain older versions in your environment. CommVault also unifies management across Microsoft product versions, enabling you to keep older and newer product versions deployed – with simplified and consistent data management — so that you can migrate at a comfortable pace.

CommVault Singular Information Management products including CommVault Galaxy Backup & Recovery have been used by the Microsoft/IT teams in Redmond since 1999 to manage production Exchange and Windows data. This enables CommVault products to have early exposure to new Microsoft product versions as they are developed — and enables our mutual customers to adopt this technology more quickly and easily, as a result.

Expanding Data Management to Match Growing Needs

CommVault software provides unique, horizontal scalability that allows you to easily expand data management capability to meet growing requirements over time. It's as simple as adding more Media Agents, all managed by the same unified console. CommVault software is one of the first to support x64 systems, to offer maximum performance benefits for data management operations on Windows. You can also add and operate heterogeneous Media Agents, including NetWare, AIX, Solaris, HP-UX and Linux systems, which work together with Windows in the same deployment.

Backup and recovery is just part of the requirement. As your needs extend to data archiving, legal discovery of Exchange and other data, replication for remote office protection, snapshot and data resource management, it's as easy as adding new modules and components.

Managing Networked Storage

To reduce the primary disk space required and to enable search and discovery of files stored on NAS devices, CommVault software provides Archive for networked storage. A CommVault software agent is easily deployed on any client Windows system which has access to the shares in the file server.

CommVault integrates with BluArc File Servers, NetApp File Servers running ONTAP, and EMC Celerra File Servers running DART.
