Why Commvault Appliances Are Simple, Streamlined, and Scale

Posted 12/04/2018 by Phil Wandrei

For me, there is nothing that compares to the direct interaction and great conversations with our customers, partners and industry analysts at Commvault GO 2018.  In case you missed it, relive the best of GO 2018. The discussions, feedback and exchange of ideas provide invaluable insight into their challenges and successes.

I can think of no better example of Commvault receiving customer and partner feedback and acting on it than our new Commvault Appliances, "Commvault Unveils New Appliances to Extend the Power of Scale-out Data Management to Enterprises, MSPs, and Remote Offices." In less than one year from the introduction of the Commvault HyperScale™ Appliance 1300, Commvault announced both the Commvault Remote Office Appliance and Commvault HyperScale™ Appliance 3300. This would not have been possible without the feedback from our customers and partners who realized the Appliance value and benefits. They wanted two additional appliances to address the challenges of remote offices and a larger appliance for environments needing greater capacity and density.

During Commvault GO, one of our Channel Partners, who covers western Canada, shared his view of the Commvault HyperScale™ Appliance and what it means to his company. This is significant as it is not just our customers that realize the value of Commvault Appliances, but our channel partners as well.

He shared with me three areas of how the HyperScale Appliance has benefited their business; simple to quote, streamlines operations and easy to scale.

Simple to Quote

As an all-in-one appliance, Commvault HyperScale is extremely easy to quote. It is a single SKU that includes the hardware (compute, storage and networking), software (OS, virtualization and Commvault Complete™ Backup and Recovery), and maintenance. For both customers and partners, it eliminates the time spent researching component compatibility, building configurations and quotes, and results in a solution that is ready to go out of the box.

Streamline Installation and Support

Commvault HyperScale Appliances are easy to install into a customer’s environment. This means they can spend less time on the installation and spend more time with the customer on greater value-add services. Also, because it is a fully-integrated solution, Commvault handles any and all support issues, whether it is hardware or software. No longer does the partner have to perform diagnostics and problem determination to figure out which vendor owns the problem, or play referee if there is disagreement between multiple vendors. The customer and partner have only one number to call; Commvault owns support from first call to resolution.

Scale is Easy and Cost-Effective

Commvault HyperScale Appliances are easy to scale as they are built on a scale-out infrastructure. Customers can add another Appliance to seamlessly expand their data storage and enjoy predictable performance. Compared to a scale-up product, even though a solution may be correctly sized, unforeseen data growth often means a premature retirement of a functional, but not fully depreciated, system. This can put the Partner in the awkward position of having to explain the need for a larger system and data migration services. Commvault HyperScale Appliances eliminate the need for forklift upgrades and make it easier for both Partners and Customers to grow the data storage while maintaining their initial Appliance investment.

It is through listening to our partners and customers that made the expansion of the Commvault Appliance family possible.
