Taking Small Steps to Remarkable Change
From previously posted blogs, Commvault is the official data partner for the South Pole Energy Challenge (SPEC) and 2041.com. We are providing complete backup and data protection for the critical data captured during all of the 2041 Foundation’s history-making expeditions - including the SPEC, IAE Antarctica 2018 and the Trans America Cycle. Commvault, a world leader in data protection, is committed to providing essential protection of photos, videos, audio files and data being collected on this important mission. The expedition is using Commvault Data Platform via Azure Cloud, Commvault Edge and our managed services to protect the team’s vital information.
We have been following the expedition since it started in November. But today our attention becomes more focused – and personal - as our Chief Marketing Officer, Chris Powell, has arrived at base camp for the SPEC. Chris is joining Robert Swan for the last 60 miles of this remarkable expedition to the South Pole that is using only renewable sources of energy to power their trip. The goal of the SPEC expedition is to raise awareness of clean energy and the importance of reducing carbon emissions on a global scale.
To show our support of the expedition, we are asking our employees to join our own energy challenge. For every day Chris is walking toward the South Pole, Commvault employees are being asked to adopt easy energy saving measures to see how a few small changes can make an impact.
We are suggesting 15 ways for our employees to make small changes in their daily lives, pledging to commit to one or all of our suggested changes for the month of January. We will track the changes and by the time the expedition reaches the South Pole, we will see how much of an impact we made in terms of energy savings. However, we extend this challenge to anyone out there who is eager to be part of small steps that make a big difference. You can click on each challenge below to tweet your own energy conservation pledge. (Disclaimer: each link will open to Twitter and may ask you to sign in).
15 energy-changing ideas
- Change your computer’s sleep and hibernation modes to be more energy efficient

- Air dry dishes
- Take shorter showers

- Switch to LED lights
- Use reusable water bottles
- Unplug all devices/appliances when not in use
We are also reaching out to our partner community to join us in this effort. Commvault has a strong ecosystem of partners and we are encouraging their teams to join with Commvault employees in this January pledge. Together, we can make an even bigger difference. Our partners can find information in our partner portal and engage with this program in social media as well.
We're eager (and somewhat nervous) to follow Chris’ progress to the South Pole. We're equally excited to see how Commvault employees and partners will make remarkable changes in support of the SPEC. What changes can you make? Why not join our challenge and find out? Start with a pledge for January, and make it a habit. It’s just a small step to remarkable.
