For the second year running, Commvault welcomed Stephen Foskett’s Tech Field Day team to Commvault GO. At the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn., the group of independent bloggers, freelance writers and podcasters were joined by customers, the state of Colorado, international press and a variety of Commvault luminaries to discuss the latest news and technology developments being showcased at the annual conference.
For the first time in the three year-history of Commvault GO, the Tech Field Day session served as the platform for Vice President, Chief Communications Officer, Bill Wohl, to “break the news” on all seven pieces of technology and partner announcements being showcased over the course of the show. This inventive new format was immediately seized upon by those taking part in the session across social channels.
Don Foster, Commvault Senior Director, Solutions Marketing & Technical Alliances, delivered a granular insight into the news and its specific technology developments. The key messages were about partner developments; simplified products and software licensing models; and new AI and machine learning elements were welcomed across social media, providing the backdrop for some lively discussion among the influencers from Tech Field Day present.
David McCurdy of Colorado took the floor next and went over the state’s strategic data initiative called “Backup Colorado” and how it came to work with Commvault.
“The relationship with Commvault started in 2014 after the state lost all its data referring to those citizens who had registered to legally buy marijuana. Enter Commvault.”
“Fast forward to February 2018. The state was hit by a coordinated ransomware attack that took down the entire IT back office. This was where Commvault came into its own, and enabled the state to recover all 193 of its servers at less than 30 minutes per server, while ensuring that absolutely none of our data was lost.”
“There’s nothing more exciting than pricing!” said Jeremy Allen, Commvault Director, Licensing and Pricing, garnering a wave of soft laughter from the Tech Field Day influencers. “We see two distinct camps: first, capacity-based licensing, and secondly, buying backup based on infrastructure. The new Commvault offerings provide fewer packages, more consolidated features and can be licensed by capacity, instances (VMs and physical), and users (mailboxes and endpoints).”
After three hours of deep-dive tech analysis and lighthearted customer input, Tech Field Day at Commvault 2018 was closed by Sabrinath Rao, Deepak Verma and Jonathan Howard. They took a look at the new HyperScale appliance and also provided a Commvault-as-a-Service in AWS demo.
Releasing the Commvault GO 2018 news announcements during the session – including the interesting, engaging customer such as the state of Colorado story – was fresh and added new ideas to Tech Field Day.
