Get Empowered with the 10/10/10 Rule

At Commvault, staying mindful and thoughtful helps us all create a better path forward, as we continue to shape our hybrid work environment.

At Commvault, Learning & Development is key to the success of our Vaulters. We continue to empower ourselves (and each other!) to thoughtfully approach how we are developing both at work and personally… because we all know these days that the lines have been blurred between our personal and professional lives with virtual work environments. Staying mindful and staying balanced is crucial.

So, let’s take a moment to think about the way we make decisions. Think about the number of decisions you make in a day, a week, or a month. Many decisions are simple, subconscious, and do not require much reflection. Yet, on the other hand, some decisions can have long-term effects on your personal and professional life. In today’s blog, let’s focus on those bigger decisions.

Decisions often involve making choices, as we choose one option or path over another. This is also known as prioritizing. A great way to prioritize and make decisions is to apply the 10/10/10 rule – which helps analyze the short-term and long-term consequences of your work-life balance decisions. This decision framework was created by writer and author Suzy Welch, and her original model uses 10 minutes, 10 months, and 10 years. But let’s be honest, 10 years in the tech world is an eternity, so today we’re adjusting the rule a bit. Changing your perspective on how you make a decision to a 10-day or 10-week timeline will help you gain insight and get some distance about your decisions:

  • How will you feel about it 10 minutes from now?
  • How about 10 weeks from now?
  • How about 10 months from now?

At Commvault, staying mindful and thoughtful helps us all create a better path forward. And as we continue to shape our hybrid work environment, an intersection of in-person and virtual working, making decisions about how we best support ourselves has never been more important.

I encourage you to try out the 10/10/10 rule or make your own decision timeline that enables you to make the best choices for yourself and others!
