Last week, Gartner announced the November 2018 Peer Insights Recognition for Data Center Backup and Recovery Solutions.
For the second time in a row, Commvault was one of the vendors in the space to be recognized as a Customers’ Choice, as reviewed by our valued customers. I believe this is one of the most important proof points in the industry, as it’s based on direct feedback from our customers. It’s also a true testament that Commvault continues to lead the industry by providing our customers with the best backup and recovery solutions for customers whose needs are constantly evolving.
Don’t take it from us, though, check out some of the things our customers had to say about their experience with Commvault.
- Endless Possibilities – Once You Know The Product: “There is almost nothing that can’t be done with Commvault backup software, from a technical point of view.”
- Comprehensive Solution for Data Protection and Management: “Overall, [Commvault] is focused on keeping [its] product ahead of the ever-changing needs in the data protection environment. We have found that wherever we have a data management need, [Commvault] has a solution available or in the works.”
- The Product Works!! Your Data is Safe: “Our overall experience with the product set is very good; [Commvault has] a strong technical vision and the software exceeded our expectation. I would like to stress that if you chose to do backup in this typical manor you look for cloud base solutions also.”
- Probably the Best Tool Out There for Data Management and Protection: “We have been using Commvault where I work for over 7 years now (I joined 5 years ago). Prior to joining this company I was working with EMC Networker (Legato) and Symantec Veritas. The interface in this backup application is really clean and simple to use; it didn’t take me too much time to learn how to use it. It is a really complete backup solution with tools for all your data management & protection needs, such as backup (exchange, databases, physical servers, virtual servers and a whole lot more) archiving, replication and of course great tools for monitoring and reporting to make sure the environment is healthy. It also has a feature called workflows, which is a really great and easy to use programming environment to automate tasks. Support is excellent and their response is really fast.”
Gartner Peer Insights in a relatively new tool within the Gartner brand, but it’s catching on quickly and becoming a key component in customers’ buying cycles. One of the key distinctions of the tool is that it is completely open and available for everyone (you don’t even need to be a Gartner customer) to read – there are no hiding places from this real-world feedback.
Since starting Gartner Peer Insights in October of 2015, Gartner has collected more than 120,000 customer reviews across 320 markets. This helps Gartner to provide customers with valued data points for which vendor products are the most valued by customers in a given market.
The Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice distinction is based on both the number of reviews and the overall user ratings a customer receives across a 12-month period. In order to be recognized, a vendor must have 50 or more published reviews and an average overall rating of 4.2 stars or higher across those reviews; Garter uses a one-to-five rating system for various product capabilities, based on a given market, with five being the highest.
In my opinion, the Gartner Peer Insights recognition for Data Center Backup and Recovery illustrates a few trends that we’re seeing in the market. Most notably, some of the traditional market share leaders are not top recommended solutions by customers.
There are also some telling consistencies about where we believe Commvault continues to excel. Let’s start with customer satisfaction and appreciation for our “always on” support team.
Customers rated Commvault extremely high across the board, with an average of more than four out of five stars when asked if they would recommend the solution. We also received an average 4.7 out of 5 for support for on-premises physical servers and on-premises virtual machines, and 4.6 stars for on-premises database/application support.*
I encourage everyone to get to know this tool. You can use it to compare vendors across various technical requirements, as well as customer experience. When used in conjunction with Gartner’s branded research, based on analyst opinions, like the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Center Backup and Recovery, you can get valued, third-party points of view to inform major purchasing decisions.
