Across your organization, whether you store your application data on-premises in data centers or host applications in the Oracle Cloud, it is important to protect and manage your production data. This includes managing File Systems and Windows/Linux-based applications data, as well as ensuring application awareness to protect data in a more consistent manner. The challenge is that it is becoming increasingly complex to move data between on-premises and the cloud when you consider compatibility issues between software, hardware and cloud storage providers, the costs of getting data to and from the cloud and efficiently transferring data between end points. You want a solution that can handle all of this vs. having to manage multiple point products.
Commvault provides a unified platform that can efficiently migrate applications and their data between on-premises and the Oracle Cloud using copy data management technology. Known as Active Copy Management, the Commvault solution enables the following use cases:

Using Oracle Cloud Storage as a DR destination
More and more organizations store copies of backup data in more than one location, including Oracle Object Storage or Oracle Archive Storage. Commvault supports native integration with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Classic for both Oracle Object Storage and Oracle Archive Storage, and supports native integration with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for Oracle Object Storage. Oracle Archive Storage integration with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is coming soon. This native integration enables easy storage of data in the Oracle Cloud.
Protecting and Recovering Applications Based on User-Defined Policies
Commvault software protects file systems, databases (Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, PostGreSQL, etc.), MS Active Directory Server, MS Exchange Server and Big Data Applications such as Hadoop, Cassandra and Mongodb in a more consistent way using a single user interface that is easy to manage. The solution provides self-service recovery capabilities, and Commvault has developed agentless backup solutions to protect the cloud instances and enable granular recovery of data from the cloud instances.
Performing disaster recovery
As mentioned above, organizations can store the data in the cloud for disaster recovery purposes. Commvault protects data on-premises and can replicate a copy to Oracle Object Storage, and vice-versa. You can configure disaster recovery for databases or applications between two data centers to enable replication. Depending on your RPO and RTO requirements, you can configure the replication interval from several hours to every few minutes.
Migrating workloads to, from, within and between Clouds
Commvault software enables easy workload portability to the cloud, from the cloud, within the cloud, and from cloud to cloud, making the cloud a natural extension of your data center. And our uniquely broad native cloud storage provider support means you can seamlessly migrate workloads without requiring expensive cloud gateways.
Workloads such as databases, Virtual Machines (VMs), or a complete E-Business Suite (EBS) application can be migrated automatically to the Oracle cloud. Commvault offers provisioning policies that give the administrator control over what types of resources can be allocated in the cloud, including specific images, compute node shapes and security lists and keys, as well as being able to implement quota limits on resource allocations.
Commvault detects if a source database is running on a big-endian platform, such as Solaris or AIX, and performs a RMAN conversion so that the database can run on the little-endian cloud infrastructure, including the Oracle Cloud. Additionally, VMs are captured at the source and migrated to the cloud where they are converted to the native cloud destination format.
Customers running an EBS application can leverage Commvault to either spin up dev/test environments or perform a ‘lift and shift’ from on-premises to the cloud. Commvault automates the discovery of the entire EBS landscape, provisions the required resources in the cloud, and allows for any custom scripts to be run against the destination environment. As part of the migration, the option to expand or contract the cloud resource footprint is available and allows for dynamic scaling based on workloads, further simplifying the migration process.
Accelerating Dev/Test via instant cloning of databases
Your development and test teams need access to up-to-date copies of production data for their purposes, but traditional methods of obtaining copies are complicated and time-consuming. Hours and even days can be ‘wasted’ while software developers wait for IT to provision copies of production data or perform routine restores. Frustrated developers may use ‘old’ data to speed up their process, which could impact the quality of testing. On top of this, those additional copies often lead to copy data sprawl, which increases storage costs as well as the risk of unauthorized access to data.
With Commvault, you can use policy-based automation to supply your dev/test and line-of-business teams with secure access to fresh copy data, whenever and wherever they need it (on-prem or in the cloud). This speeds up dev/test efforts.
This automation and orchestration provides you role-based, self-service access to improve staff efficiency and eliminates the wait time for provisioning and/or restores while ensuring compliance.
