Las Vegas (HIMSS 2016) and Tinton Falls, N.J. – March 1, 2016 - Commvault (NASDAQ: CVLT), a global leader in enterprise data protection and information management, today launched Commvault Clinical Archive to modernize the way healthcare organizations manage, migrate and share clinical data. Today’s announcement was made at HIMSS 2016, being held Feb. 29 – March 4, in Las Vegas, where this year’s conference theme is “Transforming Health through IT.”
As hospitals and healthcare providers look to control costs and improve patient care, centralizing information management using Commvault Clinical Archive breaks down data silos, reduces storage costs and complexity, enables better data sharing, and eliminates the costs of maintaining and supporting legacy applications.
Following Commvault’s strategic investment in Laitek, a pioneer in rapid data migration and storage services for PACS replacements, Commvault developed a solution built on the Commvault Data Platform and Laitek’s Semperdata™ platform to assure data migration and enable easy clinical data management for healthcare providers. Through this integration, Commvault Clinical Archive becomes the first solution that can address data management in both the clinical and business sides of healthcare in a single platform. As a result, providers can decommission legacy PACS solutions into a single data management platform, while making legacy studies accessible to new PACS solutions and available for bulk migration. Specifically, data is extracted from legacy PACS in its original format, normalized and migrated into the clinical archive in a standard format for interoperability and then stored for future use. Further, Commvault Clinical Archive can be used as a vendor-neutral repository for all clinical information that traditional VNAs strive to achieve. The hardware-independent nature of Commvault’s platform supports a full range of Cloud, On Premise, Physical and Virtual Environments, to fit each healthcare organization’s business and patient care needs.
“Healthcare customers are facing many pressures to modernize data management strategies, reduce costs and increase efficiencies,” said N. Robert Hammer, Chairman, President and CEO, Commvault. “Retiring legacy PACS and managing clinical data across multiple vendor silos are increasingly becoming frustrating challenges for healthcare IT teams, and our new solution supported by Laitek’s technology will help healthcare organizations better manage, control and protect clinical data while also benefiting from our proven approach to overall data management. We have launched a solution that prioritizes solving the pressing challenges of healthcare IT teams with industry best data management and protection while simplifying data migration and accessibility needs.”
IDC Research Validates Healthcare Data Management Needs
According to recent research by the International Data Corporation (IDC), 40 percent of healthcare providers in the United States report IT budgets are still growing, with key investments focused on clinical applications including electronic health records and analytics.* With the medical community experiencing a significant shift toward centralizing data and records, the Commvault Clinical Archive provides an opportunity for providers to address enterprise data management issues, Legacy PACS decommissioning and medical image archiving.
“IDC research shows that replacing legacy picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) is a priority among healthcare IT administrators as a result of high TCO and the solution's proprietary and siloed nature with a single department, especially as new types of unstructured content other than medical images, like scanned documents, photos and videos, proliferate across the enterprise,” said Judy Hanover, research director at IDC Health Insights. “Healthcare providers are moving to standards-based application independent clinical archiving (AICA) solutions that have lower TCO and allow them to manage, secure and share medical images alongside other vital content, improving provider operations and the quality of care by making content available for clinical decision-making.”
“Commvault’s comprehensive solutions for enterprise data management readily support clinical data objects such as documents and images, providing a managed enterprise platform for archiving and distribution of patient information as well as related business records,” said Fred M. Behlen, Ph.D., Founder and CEO of Laitek. “By incorporating technology from Laitek, Commvault is delivering a much needed clinical archiving solution that will help today’s healthcare providers meet complex data management challenges and improve patient care.”
“We’re hearing from an increasing number of healthcare providers that they need modernized data management solutions to share clinical information, provide better protection, and migrate from costly legacy systems,” said Robert Filaski, vice president of healthcare at ePlus. “We believe this innovative solution from Commvault and Laitek will reduce the impact of these problems and provide other opportunities to improve data management challenges beyond clinical archives.”
Commvault Clinical Archive is available immediately. Commvault is in Booth #865 at HIMSS.
