Throughout May, we’ve celebrated Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month across our global Vaulter community with open dialogues and educational initiatives hosted by our Multi-Culture Employee Resource Group (ERG) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) team.

AAPI Heritage Month celebrates the global contributions, achievements, and cultural heritage of Asian and Pacific Islanders, including our Vaulters who identify as Asian and Pacific Islander. It’s a time to recognize the diverse cultures, histories, and experiences of AAPI communities and their significant impact on American society and beyond. This year’s theme, selected by the Federal Asian Pacific American Council, was “Advancing Leaders Through Opportunity,” which builds on a leadership advancement theme series that began in 2021.

The AAPI communities include a rich history of cultures, traditions, and experiences, intersecting in many ways, and consist of 50 distinct ethnic groups, speaking over 100 languages – with connections to Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, Hawaiian, and other Asian and Pacific Islander ancestries. Within these diverse groups, intersections emerge through shared values, struggles, and aspirations. Whether it’s the convergence of languages, traditions, or migration stories, these intersections foster solidarity and unity, while also highlighting the unique challenges that different segments of the AAPI population face. From the common threads of discrimination and prejudice to the celebration of cultural heritage and achievements, these intersections serve as focal points for dialogue, collaboration, and advocacy, driving the collective pursuit of equity, representation, and empowerment.

Para encerrar o mês da comunidade asiático-americana e das ilhas do Pacífico (AAPI), realizamos um evento virtual no qual os Vaulters testaram seus conhecimentos, descobriram fatos fascinantes e interagiram uns com os outros em um animado jogo de perguntas e respostas que ofereceu uma maneira única e envolvente de aprender e celebrar a herança asiática e das ilhas do Pacífico. Envolver nossos Vaulters nessas atividades promove um senso de inclusão, valorização e compreensão da rica diversidade das culturas asiáticas e das ilhas do Pacífico no ambiente de trabalho.

A criação de um espaço para diálogo aberto e reflexão entre os membros da comunidade AAPI incentiva o respeito mútuo, a empatia e a solidariedade entre os funcionários da Commvault de origem asiático-americana e suas comunidades. Nosso objetivo aqui na Commvault é promover um ambiente de trabalho mais inclusivo e solidário, no qual todos se sintam valorizados e reconhecidos por suas origens e identidades únicas.

We often hear about the importance of diversity in terms of race, gender, age, and ethnicity. However, there is another type of diversity that is just as crucial to cultivate in today’s workplaces – neurodiversity. In honor of April being Neurodiversity Awareness Month, I wanted to share more about this topic and how we’re exploring it at Commvault.

I’m a proud member of our CapAbilities Employee Resource Group (ERG), which is focused on raising awareness and breaking down the bias of workplace issues that affect people with disabilities and/or caregivers of those with a disability.

Neurodiversity refers to the variation in how people think and process information. It covers conditions like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurological or cognitive differences. People who are considered “neurodivergent” have neurocognitive functioning that diverges from what is considered neurotypical or “normal.” At Commvault, we celebrate this diversity of minds and recognize that neurodivergent individuals bring unique skills, talents, and perspectives to the table, all of which are incredibly valuable in a workplace.  

O grupo CapAbilities ERG organizou recentemente um evento inspirador para discutir mais a fundo a neurodiversidade no ambiente de trabalho e como empresas, como a Commvault, podem apoiar melhor seus funcionários para criar um verdadeiro senso de pertencimento. Nosso evento aconteceu em nosso escritório no Reino Unido e foi aberto a todos os funcionários da Commvault ao redor do mundo, que puderam participar virtualmente. Ficamos muito felizes em receber a palestrante convidadaHolly Foxcroft, Head of Neurodiversity in Cyber Research and Consulting at Stott and May Consulting.

Holly compartilhou sua trajetória profissional e explicou por que se tornou tão apaixonada pela defesa da neurodiversidade no ambiente de trabalho. Ela contou como iniciou sua carreira na área de segurança cibernética, trabalhando com recrutamento técnico e ministrando treinamentos de segurança cibernética em escolas e faculdades. Quando seu filho foi diagnosticado com autismo em 2014, ela passou a defender a neurodiversidade nesse campo, ao mesmo tempo em que percebeu que também era neurodivergente.

Desde então, Holly tem se dedicado a pesquisar o tema, estudar enquanto é mãe solteira e lutar por reformas. Em seu cargo na Stott and May, Holly concentra-se na elaboração de políticas e na orientação sobre neurodiversidade no mercado de trabalho e na pesquisa na área de segurança cibernética, bem como em melhores práticas, assessoria, treinamento e consultoria. Ela também trabalha para melhorar o apoio oferecido a profissionais de segurança cibernética neurodivergentes, não apenas durante o processo de contratação, mas também promovendo mudanças culturais e combatendo preconceitos no ambiente de trabalho.

It was incredibly inspiring to hear Holly’s perspective and advice as we honored Neurodiversity Awareness Month together as a global Vaulter community. A key takeaway I learned from the event was that while initial changes may take some effort, the long-term payoff of leveraged neurodiversity is significant. Companies that embrace neurodiversity can yield improved problem-solving, enhanced innovation, increased productivity, a happier workforce, and a competitive marketplace advantage.

I’m proud to be part of a company like Commvault that celebrates our differences and gives us opportunities to have honest and open discussions about important topics like this.

Ao celebrarmos o Dia da Terra deste ano, gostaria de refletir sobre nossos esforços para sermos gestores responsáveis e limitar nosso impacto ambiental.

I’m proud to lead our Environmental Employee Affinity Group (EAG), where we create a space for Vaulters with a passion for environmental sustainability to collaborate and connect. We believe that it is our responsibility, as humans and as a company, to contribute to a healthier and more sustainable world.

Over the past year, we have continued to seek innovative ways to bring awareness to the carbon footprint of data and the role our products and services play in mitigating emissions. We have focused primarily on our newly introduced carbon calculator, which allows customers to estimate the emissions impact of using Commvault’s products and services. Our Carbon Reduction Calculator measures the amount of disk storage and energy consumption required before and after deduplication and compression, as delivered by Commvault, and presents this information in terms of more relatable equivalent values such as the number of barrels of oil consumed, number of smartphones charged, and number of passenger vehicles that it could have powered.

We’ll share more on our commitment to sustainability in the coming months in our 2024 Corporate Social Responsibility Report, so stay tuned.
