Black History Month 2024

Promoting equity, understanding, and unity during Black History Month and beyond.

Throughout February, we’ve celebrated Black History Month across our global Vaulter community with events, educational initiatives, and open dialogues hosted by our Multi-Culture Employee Resource Group (ERG) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) team.

Black History Month is a time to honor the rich heritage of African American contributions to history, culture, and society. Moreover, we’re honoring the achievements and resilience of Black individuals. By embracing the stories and experiences of the Black community, we aim to cultivate a workplace that promotes equity, understanding, and unity among all Vaulters, especially regarding our African American Vaulters.

We took the opportunity to open the month with an event to spotlight the work and achievements of the legacy organization, United Negro College Fund (UNCF). UNCF, which celebrated 80 years of service this year, is a philanthropic organization that funds scholarships for underrepresented students and general operating support for over 37 private Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Over the years, this organization has cultivated some of the country’s most brilliant minds. We heard from UNCF leaders Ngozi Claire Emenyeonu, Mary Williams, and Lu Duong on how their work in the field is combating bias in the tech industry and how the Commvault community can combat bias in tech too.

To close the month, our Multi-Culture ERG partnered with the Black employees at Microsoft (BAM) ERG Miami, Florida Chapter to host an event featuring former NBA player, Baron Davis. Baron discussed the incredible work he is doing now as a Founder, Entrepreneur, and Investor after retiring from playing NBA basketball for 18 years, as he’s focused on empowering the black community through sports, media, business and technology.

As Martha Delehanty, our Chief People Officer, shared earlier this month, our commitment to Black History Month extends beyond February as we’re actively celebrating Black history and embracing diversity year-round. DEI is foundational to everything we do – every day, we value and celebrate the unique perspectives each employee brings to the table as we foster innovation and collaboration.

Moving forward, we continue to promote ongoing dialogue, support initiatives that uplift diverse voices, and ensure that our hiring practices and career development opportunities are equitable.
