The Infrequent Access Storage tier delivers a perfect balance of performance and value for data you need to keep longer but access less often. For long-term retention and compliance needs, the Archive Storage tier offers the most cost-efficient option for data that’s rarely recovered.
How does data within Air Gap Protect remain uninfected?
When integrated with security measures like immutability, and multifactor and multi-person authentication, air gapping provides an additional robust security layer. This combination enables the recovery of clean, uncompromised backup data following a cyberattack. Should the corporate network be compromised, air-gapped backup copies will stay isolated, unaffected, and ready for restoration.
What happens if I use up my licensed Air Gap Protect capacity?
Extra Air Gap Protect capacity can be bought and added during a subscription. It’s advisable to expand capacity before it hits 100%. At 80% usage, users receive an email and a UI warning. At full capacity, data writing jobs stop, but data management tasks like aging, pruning, and restores still operate.
Does Air Gap Protect storage support a time-based retention-lock?
No, due to its architecture, a time-based retention lock isn’t supported with Air Gap Protect storage. This storage type abstracts the subscription details, giving customers access only to their specific Commvault Storage account and containers. The Commvault subscription manages these accounts and, along with Commvault Retention Lock policies, provides a similar level of data immutability. This setup prevents unnecessary data deletion and avoids the storage inflation typically associated with time-based retention locks.
How does the new Air Gap Protect Archive tier support long-term data retention?
The Air Gap Protect Archive tier delivers secure, cost-efficient long-term retention for compliance and minimal-access data. By using Commvault’s Combined Storage Tiering, Air Gap Protect Archive keeps only essential metadata on high-performance storage while placing the backup data itself in the Archive tier.
