Innovate or Die: Commvault Named to the Leaders Quadrant of Gartner Inc.'s 2012 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Backup/Recovery Software
Wednesday, June 13, 2012
We've said in the past that a "Magic Quadrant is worth a thousand words," but it means more than that. We believe being named to the Leaders Quadrant of Gartner Inc.'s 2012 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Backup/Recovery Software reinforces our vision that the future of storage is shifting toward a singular, unified approach to data management.

This achievement would not have been possible without our more than 1,600 dedicated employees or our 16,000 customers and their collective vote of confidence in our Solving Forward philosophy – our mantra of transcending traditional data backup to deliver innovative solutions that transform the way information is managed, protected and accessed. It's what puts our singular approach to data and information management into action and transforms the way organizations protect, manage and access business information and delivers unparalleled economic value.
Our vision to solve customers' complex data management problems across all IT environments with a single platform has enabled us to deliver innovative software like Simpana 9 with industry-leading capabilities, such as SnapProtect, source-side deduplication and the Simpana OnePass feature. It is a remarkable achievement to see Gartner recognize us, which we believe is for our efforts to develop innovative software solutions, but we're not stopping there. We will continue to transform the IT industry with modern solutions that set Commvault far ahead of the competition.
Commvault works hard at being more than just another IT vendor. We are a focused storage software company that continues to deliver new innovations rapidly and we strive to become a trusted partner in the eyes of our customers and channel partners.
It's that philosophy that motivates us to help our customers as they grapple with emerging trends like Big Data, the consumerization of IT and an increasingly mobile workforce, and the explosion of virtual server adoption. It's simple – in the world of IT, you innovate or die.
For example, Commvault recognized early on that users would begin to employ snapshot and replication tools to fix broken backup windows, complex recovery processes and limited infrastructure resources. Since the beginning of 2011, Simpana software's SnapProtect technology has enabled customers to extend the value of existing hardware investments through industry leading integration and innovation. Commvault has the industry's most comprehensive compatibility matrix for hardware snapshot management without the need for custom scripting or solutions. Simpana software's SnapProtect technology supports nine of the top 10 best-selling storage arrays in the industry.
Similarly, we saw the Big Data handwriting on the wall. With today's massive data growth, there simply isn't enough time, resources or budget to manage, protect, index and retain massive amounts of unstructured data using legacy methods and tools. CommVault anticipated the need to integrate backup, archive and reporting, and has built this capability into the our software platform with the Simpana OnePass feature, the industry's first converged process for backup, archive and reporting from a single data collection and common infrastructure.
Commvault is always looking ahead to anticipate the information management needs of our customers. The IT industry doesn't stand still. We have an eye towards the future and will continue to roll out new solutions that transcend traditional backup and transform the way information is protected, managed and accessed to increase efficiency, enhance business agility and reduce risk.
Just like our customers, we wouldn't be where we are today without the vast contributions of our partners. Commvault's partnerships are critical to our success and we are committed to delivering solutions, support and services that continue to provide value to our partners and help them meet and exceed the needs of their customers.
One of our long-standing partners, Tommy Mitchell, Group Technical Director for the NVT Group, said "Commvault has always been extremely focused regarding its product roadmap for Simpana and they also work very well with the channel to get them bought in to this vision. Seeing Commvault in a leadership position in the 2012 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Backup/Recovery Software now provides the ultimate recognition of these efforts and technological achievements. The Big Data debate continues to gather speed and modernizing data management remains high on the business agenda for our customers. We look forward to discussing with Commvault, with total confidence, why Simpana has been validated as the best-of-breed technology to deploy."
I invite you to download the full Gartner report, with our compliments, and I'd like to thank all of our colleagues, customers and partners for the roles they play in executing on our vision, delivering industry-leading technologies and helping Commvault to be recognized as a Leader.
Commvault will continue to focus on outpacing the industry in innovation and, in the coming months, we will continue to prove it.
