Cresting the Wave: Managing Backup Data Through Better Access to Information
Forrester just published its new The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Backup And Recovery Software, Q2 2013, and Commvault's Simpana 10 software came out on top. The wave chart is below, showing how the top six vendors, including Commvault, are stack ranked. You can download the full report from our site.
Commvault was positioned as a leader in the report and received the top score for the "Current Offering" category for our Simpana10 software, which tells us that the market is clearly embracing the business value of our integrated approach to data and information management. Our positioning in the Forrester Wave is an unprecedented one-two punch with Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Disk-Based Backup and Recovery Software, which we believe helps assure customers and partners they've chosen the best enterprise data protection solution.
But set aside competition for a second. What is most revealing about the Forrester Wave, and Rachel Dines' excellent analysis on the state of backup over on Forrester's blog, is the spotlight on the data management challenges that enterprises struggle with today.
Let's face it, data is going to continue to grow with no end in sight. Backup data is compounding the amount of storage capacity consumed. Infrastructure based on virtualized and cloud platforms are getting increasingly sophisticated. Mobile devices are omnipresent, which means demand for real-time access to information is growing just as fast as the data itself. On top of all this, regulatory issues are putting more pressure on executive, legal, financial and IT departments to be in compliance every day.
These issues are transforming our industry. Today, organizations must think of new ways to protect, manage and access their business information to deliver better service, to stay relevant, to compete and to thrive. Certainly these trends reinforce our belief that the best solution is to solve forward. Once you back up your data, you should be able to re-purpose it, to find it in seconds, to gain more use and value from the stored information. From a single platform our Simpana 10 software provides instant, self-service access to all current and historical data created by an organization – from servers to laptops, in the data center and the cloud – and empowers workers with compliance search, data mining and reporting.
As enterprises evaluate data backup solutions, they should consider the advice of Forrester and look for products that do more than just protect data. According to the Wave report, customers today have a choice in solutions that combine backup with application and hypervisor awareness, advanced hardware integration and disaster recovery and continuity features. We are pleased with the validation for Simpana 10 software, but the real winners are customers who can increase the value of information through better backup and access.
In closing, we think it's worth mentioning that - in addition to the Forrester Wave and Gartner Magic Quadrant leader positions - Commvault has a growing portfolio of industry accolades that we feel is unmatched by any competitor. Below is a list of recent awards:
