October has been a busy month. We hosted a virtual event on data protection at the edge with three different webinars that shared insights on endpoint data protection, search and access, including trends, use cases, real world stories and technical details. We also launched a free software trial for Commvault Edge.

More and more organizations are asking about managing data at the edge and looking for ways to solve this increasingly critical challenge. They want to implement IT-approved backup for PCs and often ask us what the end-user experience will be like before rolling out a laptop/desktop protection solution. We listened to these requests and, thanks to the efforts of some smart and creative folks in our software development organization, launched the Test Drive program, a free 14-day Commvault Edge™ trial. Any business in the U.S. can sign up and try out the software to back up files on its laptops or desktops and access that data from virtually anywhere. For example, users can experience what it’s like to edit a local, synced copy of tomorrow’s presentation from their home PC, then review the protected copy through the mobile app on their tablet while traveling to a big meeting the following day.

In her session at the virtual event, Rachel Dines, Forrester Research Senior Analyst, said 50 percent of all enterprises use some type of endpoint backup and those that aren’t thinking about protecting data at the edge are increasingly in the minority. Driving this push is that today’s mobile worker is generating and using more data on more devices from more locations. And without an IT-approved solution, they will find their own way to back up and retrieve their information – a very scary proposition for the business, even when it’s not Halloween. You can read more about this session in Liem’s blog, including a summary of the live Q&A portion.

If you are one of those enterprises that is either looking at endpoint data for the first time, or just looking for a better way to deal with it, we encourage you to take Commvault Edge for a test drive. Let us know what you think of the trial and what we can do it to make it even more valuable for you.
