Commvault GO First Day – A Smashing Success

What a great way to kick off Commvault GO here in Orlando, Fla.! A strong lineup of keynote speakers enthralled a packed theatre at the Rosen Shingle Creek Convention Center this morning.

Today’s program began with an entertaining presentation by Adam Savage, formerly of the famous Mythbusters TV program on the Discovery Channel. Adam talked about his personal data – his programs, his costumes, his images and how important it was to him to protect, index and store his IP for himself and his children. Adam described himself as a "highly-functional hoarder" of data. He related his own experiences with "backing up" his personal materials to the challenges faced by IT professionals doing the same for their companies.

Bob Hammer, CEO of Commvault, laid out a road map for companies to drive a holistic data management strategy and a way to operate via the big forces shaping the industry – the move to the cloud, exploding volumes of data, new workloads (like big data, etc.) and new innovation and technology. Bob outlined five building blocks for that strategy, also known as the "five fundamentals of data management," which include: Know Your Data, Federate Your Data, Mobilize Your Data, Govern Your Data and Secure Your Data. Bob helped the audience understand that a modern data platform makes this holistic strategy possible; he also made a strong case that Commvault has the industry’s most powerful data platform available today.

In addition to Bob's keynote address, the company issued a press release today that summarizes the five data fundamentals.

The morning’s program was rounded out with great keynotes by Steve Guggenheimer of Microsoft, who discussed the digital revolution and the cloud; Dave Russell of Gartner, who reviewed the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Backup and Recovery Software; and the morning was hosted by Robert Scoble, noted futurist.

The rest of today’s Commvault GO program will be made up of more than 30 breakout sessions on a variety of topics, including DR in the Cloud; Data Center Transformation; Don’t Let Data Overwhelm Your Business; and several customer presentations. A full exhibit hall experience is also on hand, including a huge Commvault Campus where customers and partners can experience Commvault solutions, meet the experts and participate in hands-on labs.

Commvault GO 2016 is sold out and continues through Thursday in Orlando.
